The VEG file format is a proprietary project file format developed by Sony Creative Software and currently maintained by MAGIX for use with VEGAS Pro, a professional non-linear video editing software. Unlike a final rendered video file (such as MP4 or AVI), a VEG file does not contain actual video, audio, or image data. Instead, it acts as a container or a roadmap that stores references to the source media files, along with a comprehensive list of edits, transitions, effects, color grading settings, keyframes, and timeline arrangements applied by the user. Because it is a project file, it is highly dependent on the original source assets; if the source files are moved or deleted, the VEG file will show the media as 'offline.' This format allows editors to save their progress and return to complex multi-track projects at any time to make non-destructive changes. It is specific to the VEGAS ecosystem and is generally not compatible with other video editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve without conversion or intermediate export formats like AAF or EDL.
