A VEP file is a proprietary project file format primarily associated with NCH Software's VideoPad Video Editor. This file type serves as a blueprint for a video editing project, storing all the instructions, settings, and references necessary to reconstruct the user's work within the VideoPad application. Crucially, a VEP file does not embed the actual video, audio, or image media files themselves. Instead, it contains pointers to where these source media files are located on the user's computer. Within a VEP file, you'll find data detailing the arrangement of clips on the timeline, applied video effects, transitions between clips, audio track configurations, text overlays, titles, and other project-specific parameters like aspect ratio and resolution settings. When a user saves their progress in VideoPad, a VEP file is created, allowing them to close the program and later reopen the project exactly where they left off to continue editing. To share the final video or play it on devices that don't have VideoPad, the project must be rendered or exported into a standard video format such as MP4, AVI, MOV, or WMV. VEP files are not designed for direct playback and are generally incompatible with other video editing software, requiring VideoPad for access and modification.
